Liberty of Oklahoma Makes Strides in Clearing the HCBS Waitlist

Liberty and DDS are on track to clear the 13-year HCBS waitlist within just two years. This remarkable achievement showcases the state’s and company’s dedication to providing supports and services to individuals and families across the state.

Liberty of Oklahoma (Liberty), in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Developmental Disabilities Services (DDS), is on track to clear the 13-year Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waitlist within just two years. In collaboration Liberty of Oklahoma Corporation, the state is on track to alleviate the burden faced by over 5,100 individuals seeking essential services. This partnership has already yielded remarkable results, with hundreds of applicants receiving the support they urgently need.

To facilitate this substantial undertaking, the legislature appropriated $32.5 million in May 2022 and an additional $10 million in 2023, underscoring the state’s commitment to resolving the DDS waitlist and providing essential support to provider organizations.

The collaboration between the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and Liberty of Oklahoma Corporation began on September 1, 2021, with the goal of completing the needed assessments by the end of calendar year 2022. The goal was reached and the data obtained from these assessments was instrumental in developing a comprehensive cost model for full funding of services for all individuals currently on the waitlist. Additionally, DHS intends to modernize the developmental disability HCBS service array to provide better and more efficient services.
