Forensic Mental Health
In addition to staffing and managing dozens of traditional inpatient forensic psychiatric units, Liberty has excelled in developing many innovative and specialized forensic programs. Notable achievements include:
Jail Based Restoration of Competency
Liberty Healthcare is recognized for pioneering the jail-based ROC® model. Beginning with a 35-bed jail-based psychiatric unit in Virginia, Liberty has continued to develop ROC to accelerate the restoration of competency at multiple locations. ROC has achieved cost savings for the California Department of State Hospitals and was lauded in a Legislative Accounting Office report. We were cited for simultaneously cutting costs nearly in half in comparison to state hospital costs while expediting the rate of restoration of competency. The program received the 2013 California Council on Mentally Ill Offenders Best Practices Award.
Dual Diagnosis - Serious Mental Illness and Addictions
Liberty designed and operated an innovative “forensic continuum” program that included a 42-bed secure residential treatment facility and intensive follow-up treatment in the community. Liberty’s rehabilitation program model was recognized as “best practice” by the American Psychological Association’s Committee for the Advancement of Professional Practice’s Task Force on Serious Mental Illness and Severe Emotional Disturbance.
Dual Diagnosis- Serious Mental Illness and Intellectual Disabilities
Since 1999, Liberty has operated a 52-bed ICF/IID for dually diagnosed men and women with intellectual and developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental illness and/or severe behavioral disruptions for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. In addition to achieving Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitative Facilities (CARF) accreditation, we earned the distinction of being the first treatment facility in North America to be accredited by the National Association for the Dually Diagnosed (NADD) in 2012.
Transition and Re-Entry Programs
Liberty managed a transitional residential facility for Bermuda that combined behavioral health and substance abuse treatment, employment, and housing support to help offenders transition back into the community without relapsing into addictions or crime. We currently manage three reentry programs that combine specialized offender treatment with monitoring and supervision on a statewide basis.
